Latest Update/Letter To Governor Cuomo Being Circulated Among Legislators

Greetings,

I write to bring you up to date regarding several important Marcellus Shale gas developments.

Albany Rally follow-up/You are generating intense pressure

Greetings,

Once again, I want to thank everyone who traveled to Albany last week. We definitely cranked up the heat.

Commissioner Martens is quoted today in an AP article about revising the draft SGEIS per Executive Order No. 41. It said:

"He didn't rule out various options called for by environmental groups.

'Some people say we should reopen the process. We're looking at all of that,' Martens said. 'We're trying to solicit and digest all the information we can and put it into a document that addresses all the concerns raised to date. It's a really formidable task.'"

Albany Rally photos/de facto moratorium/ban questions

Greetings,

Many thanks for the generous comments that dozens of activists provided about Thursday's Albany Rally. Your sentiments are appreciated.

I neglected to provide a link to photos of the event. In the first photo, DEC Commissioner Martens is the tall fellow with the red tie. If you spot him, buttonhole him. See: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/image/tid/282

I was forwarded a pro fracking ban communication that stated DEC is "moving forward to start fracking this summer/fall..." That is totally misleading. I write to set the record straight.

Stupendously Great Day in Albany

Greetings,

I write to express my deep appreciation to everyone who attended yesterday's incredible rally in Albany and marched to the Second Floor of the Capitol to send a loud message to Governor Cuomo to expand the scope of the Marcellus Shale SGEIS.

Even more importantly, I wish to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the event a memorable success on extremely short notice.

3/24/11 Albany Rally Moved Indoors

Greetings,

Neither rain nor snow nor sleet will keep us from our momentous Rally tomorrow in Albany to request Governor Cuomo to expand the scope of the Marcellus Shale draft SGEIS.

Since inclement weather is predicted, we are moving our Rally indoors. Please gather at 12:00 Noon in the "Well" of the Legislative Office Building. See map below. Just walk into the LOB from the Concourse of the Empire State Plaza. The Well is just past the elevators. You can't miss it.

Intense Media Coverage/Presentation in Ithaca Wednesday 3/9

Greetings,

What a whirlwind the last week has been. I want to thank everyone who contacted me about Ian Urbina's epic gas drilling wastewater series in The NYT. I have been deluged with requests for information, offers of assistance, all manner of suggestions and many gracious expressions of gratitude.

You can read the three front-page stories and check out the accompanying graphics/document applications at:

Holding my breath/keep slugging

Greetings,

Two additional shale gas articles by Ian Urbina have yet to run in The NYT. I know I am not alone in waiting with bated breath. Should be very shortly. Keep your fingers crossed.

I apologize for the problems with emailing the Governor. The email I earlier provided no longer works. Please use the new email below.

If you bcc'd Toxics Targeting, we will resend your email for you. Thanks for your patience.

The Governor Cuomo Coaltion Letter has reached the 3,000 signatory mark. Keep slugging. Find as many other signatories as feasible:

Greetings,

I was enthralled by the New York Times fracking wastewater piece today. I thought it was really powerful and groundbreaking. I hope you read Ian Urbina's piece in an actual newspaper because the story started below the fold on the front page and jumped to two whole inside pages!!! Thank you, Ian. See: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/27/us/27gas.html?hp

Thank you, also, Haeyoun Park, NYT Graphics Editor, for your terrific work.

The New York Times Covers Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling Wastewater/Hold Onto Your Hats

Greetings,

I am very pleased to let you know that The New York Times is about to cover the issue of Marcellus Shale horizontal hydrofracturing wastewater in unprecedented fashion. The first story of a three-part series by Ian Urbina was just posted at: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/27/us/27gas.html?ref=us. It should appear on the front page of Sunday's paper.

Thank You - Thank You - Thank You

Greetings,

I am exceedingly pleased to report Marcellus Shale antifrackers just enjoyed yet another stupendous day of participatory democracy in Binghamton, NY. I cannot thank enough all the groups and activists who braved frigid weather to send Governor Cuomo a LOUD and CLEAR message to expand the scope of the draft SGEIS in order to comply with Executive Order No. 41.

Your efforts are truly appreciated. Bravo!

The turn-out, huge signs, speakers, media coverage, energy and dedication were terrific. I guarantee you the Governor knew why we were there.
