Yet Another Great Day Without Shale Fracking in NYS | Please Help Matt Ryan | Go Hard

A. Governor Cuomo still has not rendered any final decision to permit shale gas extraction, even on a limited basis. New York's shale fracking moratorium remains in full effect, but every day is a political eternity.

We must make sure that: 1) the Governor does not greenlight shale fracking and 2) we generate ever-increasing, unrelenting fracking opposition as he draws closer to his re-election bid.

B. Dr. Nirav R. Shah still has not completed his bogus shale fracking DOH Review conducted in total secrecy without any public input. As a result, no Final SGEIS has been adopted.

Unfortunately, his DOH Review could be released any day even though it has not fulfilled the mandates specified for the proceeding by the Cuomo Administration. We must hold the Governor strictly accountable for those promises: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/sites/default/files/martens_rej_id_study_...

C. On a happy note, Matt Ryan's Mayor's Ball last Friday in Binghamton was a terrific event with many shale gas activists in attendance. See pics: http://www.toxicstargeting.com/node/40147

Please repeat after me: No DOH Review, No Final SGEIS, No shale fracking in the Empire State.

Thank you all so much for writing Governor Cuomo to request that he undertake a "Public Health Impact Study" to resolve documented shale fracking health concerns on a comprehensive basis.

Quick-Action Guide

Contact Governor Cuomo Today to Request That:

1. Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav R. Shah immediately undertake a Shale Gas Public Health Impact Study that will "result in the most thorough review of high-volume hydraulic fracturing in the nation."

2. The current DOH Review be put on-hold until the proposed Public Health Impact Study is completed.

3. The proposed Study require formal public participation and fulfill DEC Commissioner Martens' 9/20/12 mandates:

Greetings,

Thank you for all your inquiries. Too many shale gas fracking events to count are underway.

I write to try to clear up confusion about Governor Cuomo's current fracking posture, the impending DOH Review, DEC's dead Revised Rulemaking proceeding and two new fracking moratorium bills that have little chance of being enacted into law.

Take Urgent Action Today

Call and email your Assembly and State Senate Representatives. If they are not one of the 65 signatories to Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton's Letter calling for Formal DOH Review Public Participation, please ask them to become one. We should build maximum support in the Legislature for requiring public participation for the DOH Review.

Greetings,

I write to implore you to become a signatory to a new coalition letter that aims to prevent Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah from completing a bogus Review of the Public Health Impact of High Volume Hydraulic Fracturing within a "few weeks."

The letter requests that formal public participation and major revisions for the DOH Review be adopted. As I will explain below, those essential goals must be achieved without delay or New York's shale gas fracking moratorium could end extraordinarily soon.

What DOH and DEC Did This Week/Our General Plan of Action/More to Come Shortly

Greetings,

I write simply to try to explain the extremely important consequences of the decision by DOH Commissioner Nirav Shah and DEC Commissioner Joe Martens not to adopt a Final Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS) by yesterday's deadline.

As a result, Governor Cuomo confirmed that DEC's shale gas Revised Rulemaking proceeding would not meet its drop-dead deadline of 2/27/13. The Governor also noted that "...he wouldn’t rush Shah to meet an 'arbitrary' deadline."

Unbelievably Great Day/DOH Review Strategy Works Like a Charm/Thank You All/Not Over Yet

Greetings,

Guess who blinked?

I am thrilled to let you know that the State Department of Health's Review of the "health impact analysis" conducted by DEC will not be completed by a key 2/13/13 deadline.

As a result, no Final SGEIS has been adopted.

As a result, DEC's shale gas Revised Rulemaking proceeding is extremely unlikely to meet its 2/27/13 deadline. In that event, the proceeding would expire.
