Local Protesters Travel To Albany To Rally Against Hydrofracking

03/24/11

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local people traveled to Albany Thursday to voice their opinions about hydrofracking in New York State.

The bus picked people up in Ithaca before making a stop for more protesters in Binghamton.

The protesters will rally outside of the New York State Capitol until 4:00 P.M. Thursday.

After that - they will then march to Governor Andrew Cuomo's office, hoping he will agree to expand the scope of the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement to protect New York's environment.

"It may be what we need to do is take our energy dollars, and our subsidies, and direct them immediately to wind, and solar power and get away from carbon all together," says biologist and protester Sandra Steingraber.

The group recommends visiting the website www.toxicstargeting.com if you want more information about horizontal hydrofracking in New York State and how you can help prevent it.
