Dear Commissioner Martens:

My husband and I write to urgently request that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) immediately enlarge the reach of its efforts to revise the draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS) pursuant to Executive Order No. 41.

The following issues seem particularly pertinent:

If we understand the issues adequately, the DEC has been ordered to complete its revision by 7/1/11. The original draft SGEIS received such severe criticism that Executive Order No. 41 was necessitated. From what we understand, there has not been a regulatory challenge of this magnitude in the last 35 years of DEC’s activities. We respectfully urge DEC to complete its revision without regard to any arbitrary deadline.
