You are here

We won’t make a mortgage on leased property, period.

You go, Walter. I don’t know you, but I love you. And appreciate, with all of my heart, what you are doing for the cause.

I hope it won’t be required, but I will lay myself down in front of the trucks if this ever comes to pass.

You asked for stories about mortgages. I am on the board of Alternatives Federal CU. We won’t make a mortgage on leased property, period.

In my day job, I work as a Financial Planner. I had a prospect in with large real estate holdings in Enfield. I asked what, if anything was leased. She relayed to me that she has leases from the old days, before fracking was developed as a technology. Her leases are about to expire and she was worried about how to make sure they truly expire. She told me that much of their land sits on an aquifer and the family is convinced that drilling there would destroy the fresh water the neighbors and farmers depend on. Whatever money they could derive from leasing going forward is not worth the environmental impacts they are convinced would follow.

I fell in love with them, too.
