deeply concerned about natural gas drilling/hydrofracking

Dear Mr. Martens / Ms. Enck,

I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about natural gas drilling/hydrofracking that is slated for New York State. I am a resident of Freeville, NY located in the Fingerlakes region near Ithaca, NY, where we are positioned right over the Marcellus shale formation. The details revealed in the recent New York Times expose of drilling practices in Pennsylvania have me more frightened than ever ( http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/us/series/drilling_down/index.html ).

Please, I URGE you to work to vastly tighten up regulations and work to protect our beautiful state from irrecoverable damage from gas hydrofracking. Please:

1) Expand the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns, notably how to manage gas drilling wastewater;

2) Establish Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help DEC revise the draft SGEIS;

3) Provide at least 30 days public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope;

4) Require individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.

Thank you very much,
Genevieve D
