I strongly urge you to limit hydrofracturing in New York

I am writing as a concerned New York Resident, Citizen, Tax-Payer and Voter.

I strongly urge you to limit hydrofracturing in New York.

I believe our continued dependence on carbon based fuels at the expense of our environment and health is short-sighted and ultimately a failing option. I believe the interests of the residents of this state, our environment and of humans in general are best served by developing other forms of energy production, dramatic improvements in conservation support and carbon-tax based lifestyle adjustments that allow us to understand and respond to the true cost of a carbon based economy.

To that end, I oppose hydrofracturing in New York and firmly believe the harm this practice will bring to this state far outweigh any gains it may bring.

I realize that the industry has successfully largely protected itself from scrutiny and accountability at the federal level, especially for it's wastewater releases - and that your hands are tied to some extend by these successful federal lobbying efforts - which in my opinion, makes stringent state controls in every area still left to you as very, very important checks on the seemingly inevitable trashing of our state by this industry and it's practices.

I urge you to, at the very least:

- expand the scope of the draft SGEIS to include all additional concerns, specifically including how to manage and account for all gas drilling wastewater over the entire life of each well

- provide, at an absolute minimum, a 30 day public comment period to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope

- establish Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help the DEC revise the draft SGEIS - give the citizens of the state the primary voice with the DEC, not the industry which has extracting profit for it's out of state owners as it's single motive, a motive that requires the industry to externalize as much costs as possible - leaving us to clean up and live with the waste and damage long after they've taken their money and left

- require individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, GA Effluent limitations for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.

Thank you for hearing my concerns, I trust you will work in the best interest of the citizens and environment of this state - well before the interests of all other parties.
