Dear DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens,
I am certain you have heard the cry from many concerned NY State citizens to slow down and take time to study the grave consequences of hydrofracking. I believe we need to know and do so much more before moving forward. The risks of compromising our beautiful New York State, its resident's health, its precious water resources and its most undeniably exquisite farmlands and Finger Lakes region (our environment) are very real. With all due respect I urge you to support:
*Expanding the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns, notably how to manage gas drilling wastewater;
*Establishing Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help DEC revise the draft SGEIS;
*Providing at least 30 days public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope;
*Requiring individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.
I thank you and applaud you for your dedication to New York State. I truly hope you will take this request under mindful consideration and will make the right decisions that will protect us and our environment.
Sincerely,
Anita W
