Dear Governor Cuomo and Commissioner Enck,
As you must know, the NY Times has just done extensive reporting on wastewater spills from horizontal gas drilling (hydrofracking). There is no amount of money that can make up for this kind of environmental degradation!
As the governor of NY State and as Regional EPA Commissioner, you are the best people to keep this from happening in New York and the rest of our region.
Governor Cuomo, please expand the scope of the SGEIS to include managing gas drilling wastewater.
Please establish citizens and Tech advisory committees to help the DEC revise the SGEIS. and put Walter Hang on them!
Please insure a 30 day or more pubic comment period to identify additional issues to be included in the SGEIS scope.
Please require individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracking permits, GA effluent limitations for hydrofracking, deepwell injection, and wastewater treatment.
Require updating the 1992 GEIS by these committees.
Commissioner Enck, please get the EPA going to limit hydrofracking. A safer gas-extraction process can be found, the gas isn't going anywhere! We need our water to remain drinkable and our fish to remain edible! We need legal protections from environmental destruction!
