Dear Ms. Enck --
On the heels of the article that appeared in the Sunday, Feb. 27 edition of the NYT ("Regulation is Lax fro Water from Gas Wells"), I would appreciate hearing from you as to how you think NYS is at all prepared for a heavy onslaught from the gas industry, chomping at the bits to cross the Pa. stateline and hydrofrack us out of existence -- quite literally. I urge you, at the very least, to implement the suggestions made by Walter Hang of Toxics Targeting, which are:
1. Expand the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns, notably how to manage gas drilling wastewater;
2. Establish a Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help DEC revise the draft SGEIS;
3. Provide at least 30 days public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope;
4. Require individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofracturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS
I believe you to be an intelligent person of conscience. Your actions regarding this issue will speak to my assessment.
Best regards,
Teresa W
