Dear Governor Cuomo/Ms. Enck,
I am writing you out of grave concern for the integrity of the fresh water resources of New York State. I have grown up here my whole life and love this state but without clean water my family and I will have to move elsewhere. We are especially concerned about horizontal hydrofracturing and how harmful this process has been to other states including our neighboring Pennsylvania.
Everyone in my family voted for you because we are Democrats and share your values. We hope that you will support expanding the scope of the draft SGEIS to include additional concerns including how to manage wastewater. Wastewater is a major expense for this process and should be paid for by the companies that are drilling.
We also ask that you establish Citizens and Technical Advisory Committees to help the DEC revise the draft of SGEIS.
Please also provide a minimum of 30 days of public comment to identify additional issues to be included in the draft SGEIS scope.
Finally, it is crucial that we require individual EIS reviews for horizontal hydrofracturing permits, "GA effluent limitations" for hydrofacturing, deep well injection and wastewater treatment as well as updating DEC's 1992 GEIS.
Without clean water we won't be economically productive. Water is perhaps the most vital natural resource we have in NYS and we are counting on you and your vision of a brighter future for New Yorkers to include water safety and the safety of your citizens. Please help us keep our water clean.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
William O.
