Thank you! Excellent timing.
My name is June G, and I am an unfortunate Marcellus Shale Dweller -
I heard your interview with Amy Goodman this morning, and since this is a topic that concerns me greatly, I am trying to get some info from you. I live in N E Pennsylvania, and we are experiencing a nightmare of the Gas Drilling assault in our county;Wayne County: clearly the honey spot for all of these companies. They were very clever and went to the individual land owners - this is an economically depressed area - and offered them a lot of money to drill and pipeline their way to Tennessee! We are inundated and even the Game lands and all natural forest land has been given freely to these egregious companies. There are no restrictions on them, the watch dog groups dissolved and budgets deliberately cut from the EPA here. There have already been toxic spills in Steven's Creek, massive fish kills and problems in Milanville and Dimmick Township with nothing more than a slap on the wrist and a small fine.
You have a leg up because of the Reservoir in the Catskills that provides drinking water to the cities; we are disadvantaged because we all have individual wells they don't care about. All of our politicians and Town Board Advisors appear to have been bought and our neighbors laugh when we talk about the environmental destruction. It is a place gone mad with greed.
What can we do!? Do you have part of your organization here in PA?
Sincerely worried,
June G.
