Greetings Fractivists,

I am pleased to report that we are making great progress in our campaign to make sure that Governor Cuomo cannot win praise for decrying global climate change while approving infrastructure projects that would perpetuate New York's addiction to fossil fuels for decades to come.

If the Governor grants permits for fossil fuel compressor stations, pipelines, gas storage facilities and new or retrofitted power plants, he must be chastised for being a climate change hypocrite. When he fails to safeguard public health and the environment from toxic hazards, he must be battered with well-deserved criticism.

That is why I write to update you on our efforts to halt a massive "virtual pipeline" compressed natural gas truck transfer facility proposed in Fenton, NY. We are seriously cranking up the heat on the Governor to kill this project. I implore you to throw more fuel on the fire.

Intense Media Attention for Toxics Targeting's Land-Use and Sensitive Receptor Analysis

On 7/25/17, Toxics Targeting generated intense media attention by countering the absurd claim that the Fenton location is similar to a compressor facility already operating in Milton, VT. My colleagues compiled detailed land-use and sensitive receptor data which document that the two sites are hardly alike.

The Milton, VT location is in an industrial area mainly surrounded by undeveloped agricultural land or low-density housing. Within a mile of the facility, there are only about 200 structures.

In contrast, the proposed Fenton location adjoins densely developed residential and commercial areas. Within one mile, there are thousands of homes, businesses, places of worship, schools and day care facilities.

More News Coverage for Growing Citizen Organizing Action

On 7/31/17, Toxics Targeting made a presentation to more than 70 local residents spearheading opposition to the proposed project. We are helping them undertake highly focused action to stop this potentially dangerous facility dead in its tracks. The meeting received media coverage.

Immediately after my presentation, activists zeroed in on key elected officials by writing their State Senator, phone banking Governor Cuomo and showing up at an event he held in nearby Johnson City. This is the same highly effective "bird-dogging" strategy that we used to require the Governor to prohibit shale fracking.

State Senator Akshar Opposes Fenton Compressor Station Location

The very next day, Senator Fred Akshar publicly opposed the proposed Fenton facility location. Your heart will sing when you read this: 8/1/17 Statement from Senator Fred Akshar on the NG Advantage Compressor Station Project in Hillcrest

Take Urgent Action

The day after that, 8/2/17, litigation challenges against the proposed facility received a court hearing. While no decision was rendered, the judge extended a temporary restraining order that halted work on the proposed facility since 6/22/17.

During this work stoppage, it is imperative that we take unrelenting action to require Governor Cuomo to make sure that this facility cannot be built or operated.

Call Governor Cuomo during business hours at 518 474 8390. Tell him he is a climate change hypocrite if he approves any permits or authorizations required for this project to be built or operated.

Tell the Governor to REVOKE the Stormwater SPDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) General Permit for Construction Activities granted for the project. The virtual pipeline cannot proceed without this permit.

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno: One for All, All for One

Our amazingly proactive 24/7 campaign demonstrates over and over that we can make the difference between winning and losing big environmental battles. We achieve unprecedented victories by closely coordinating data research, media outreach and highly sophisticated public policy advocacy by thousands of dedicated Fractivists. We are the antithesis of "just say no" opposition efforts that rarely succeed.

Citizens in Fenton, NY are now echoing our request that Governor Cuomo adopt a moratorium on all fossil fuel infrastructure projects. By helping them, we are bolstering our requests to kill Crestwood Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage in Reading, NY and the Valley Lateral, Pilgrim and Dominion New Market Pipelines.

Our campaign to halt New York's addiction to fossil fuels is strengthened by every battle we undertake. We are all in this fight together. Each community faced with these challenges must work well with all other individuals and groups fighting against similar fossil fuel threats.

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno: One for All, All for One.

Go hard. Winning is better than losing. Have fun.

Cheers,

Walter
