Greetings,

Our fossil fuel infrastructure campaign has been working with laser-focus since 2016 to require Governor Cuomo to DENY a critical gas storage permit that is essential for a massive 1.5 million barrel Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility proposed for abandoned salt mines in Reading, NY by a unit of Crestwood Midstream Partners.

Toxics Targeting documented a wide array of contamination hazards at the proposed facility location as well as literally years of regulatory non-compliance. We identified legacy pollution hazards that repeatedly impacted Seneca Lake, the source of drinking water for approximately 100,000 people, including residents of nearby Watkins Glen.

Nevertheless, Governor Cuomo has not fulfilled our requests to DENY the key gas storage permit or to adopt a moratorium on all fossil fuel infrastructure projects. As a result, we must crank up the heat.

An Incredible Stroke of Good Luck

I am thrilled to report that we have just caught an incredible lucky break with regard to the proposed LPG fossil fuel monstrosity. I write to implore you to take urgent action to kill it without any further delay.

The law firm representing Finger Lakes LPG Storage, LLC/Crestwood Midstream Partners just requested that no decision be made by the Cuomo administration regarding this permit matter because it reported concerns that multiple salt mine cavities "may be in communication" and could be potentially leaking.

This revelation comes after years of denying that this was a meaningful risk. The firm proposes to conduct a pressure test to address the concern.

Take Urgent Action Today

This is a perfect opportunity to hammer Governor Cuomo on this issue just as he begins his reelection campaign in earnest. Pour it on. Do not stop until you drop.

Call Governor Cuomo today and keep calling him at 518 474 8390 to request that he DENY the gas storage permit for the proposed LPG storage facility in Reading, NY.

Request that the Governor adopt a moratorium on all approvals for pipelines, power plants, storage facilities and other infrastructure projects that would perpetuate New York's addiction to polluting fossil fuels which contribute to global climate change.
