Ithaca, NY (WHCU) – Ithaca-based Toxics Targeting is asking Governor Cuomo to intercede in a Cargill salt mine spill which took place under Cayuga Lake in February of this year.

Activist leader of the organization, Walter Hang, says a number of spills have occurred, in particular one which involved what the salt mining company says is a non-toxic substance.

Cargill doesn’t agree with Hang’s statement and says it has fulfilled all requirements necessary to clean up the materials as per New York State Department of Environmental Conservation guidelines.
