Walter, Add one more letter to that total. I sent one as well and basically just asked that your specific concerns be addressed with all seriousness. I am a Bradford County, Pa. citizen and a Corning, N.Y. business owner. I stressed the recent spill here in my county as a result of inadequate oversite and poor workmanship. I begged them to take my concerns to heart and thanked them profusely for listening. I so very very much appreciate your work on this issue. Daily I educate my clients about the natural gas situation. Corning residents, by and large, seem very isolated and smug, that it won't happen here. Needless to say I am working on the Seneca Lake issue as well. Again, my thanks! Eat well to keep your health, during this very stressful time. betsy b |

Hi Walter, I have been lobbying with Stephanie ______ the past several weeks and the whole property value/ policy of lenders to deny equity retrieval ,etc has been my focus. Your formatting of the data is excellent and I am very grateful that you've shared it with us. And your letter to the Governor is a thing of beauty! |

You go, Walter. I don’t know you, but I love you. And appreciate, with all of my heart, what you are doing for the cause. I hope it won’t be required, but I will lay myself down in front of the trucks if this ever comes to pass. You asked for stories about mortgages. I am on the board of Alternatives Federal CU. We won’t make a mortgage on leased property, period. In my day job, I work as a Financial Planner. I had a prospect in with large real estate holdings in Enfield. I asked what, if anything was leased. She relayed to me that she has leases from the old days, before fracking was developed as a technology. Her leases are about to expire and she was worried about how to make sure they truly expire. She told me that much of their land sits on an aquifer and the family is convinced that drilling there would destroy the fresh water the neighbors and farmers depend on. Whatever money they could derive from leasing going forward is not worth the environmental impacts they are convinced would follow. I fell in love with them, too. Leslie |

Thank you Walter, My family, my friends and I all appreciate the tremendous amount of work you do and the positive results you get with the support of all the people who admire and agree with you. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! most sincerely, |

This has been a major argument of mine from the beginning. Gas drilling and other forms of mining that ruin landscape and resources are usually embraced in areas that are already "impoverished." To destroy property values of entire Regions to benefit a few is not equitable. The long-term effects are un-quantifiable. The short term boom to businesses that cater to the industry cannot be offset by the decline in the quality of life, the risk of explosions, water pollution and the threat to the health and welfare of entire communities. Although this industry has moved successfully through most of the United States from the West, the industry bucks must stop here! Enough is enough. Thank you for all your tireless work and great communications. Maria G |

Dear Walter, I think this is the first time I've written to you but I want you to know how much I support your efforts. You are doing an amazing job! I have just sent the suggested letter to Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (District 110) and Senator Hugh Farley (District 44) It just so happens that I have met them both many times and expect to see them at the NiskaDay Parade this Saturday where I will be helping with communication. They are always at this event and if I get the opportunity, I will ask them personally. Sincerely, Mildred G |

I can't believe you guys are out there! Seen Walter Hang on Democracy Now. How cool are you. In my area no one seems to care. I'm the weird one. They won't get informed. But I still try. Thanks for the hope. Juanita B |

Dear Walter...It is so inspiring to hear of the tremendous turn out and the amazing roster of spokespeople there at the Albany rally. How I wish I could have been there...ANd I know so many others who a wish they, too , could be among the strong voices for a safe . clean watershed and countryside. I began to wonder if there coouldnt be a way of having those of us that, for all our various reasons could not attend, still be seen. I'm wondering if each marcher present at rallys could hold a sign that represents us, by the hundreds and thousands. Those that write and say...I AM THERE IN SPIRIT !! could we ,also, be at least a name on a sign, that some blessed person, able to attend and carry...saying WE, THE HUNDRED THAT CANNOT BE HERE IN THE FLESH>< WE ARE HERE IN SPIRIT. If each attendee carries a sign, saying I REPRESENT 50 more.... IF a rally is to begin at 12:00 in ALbany, we in Ithaca can all shout out loud! honk our horns! bang our pots! Clang out bells! as individuals or in small groups or mini rallies in our towns....till the whole of New York State hears our words! and feels our passion for the salvation of our Planet. You are a great hero in our time, Walter. Thank you for taking your time and making such good use of it. Thank you for inspiring others to be heroic too! Bless the work fo your hands , Walter. Respectfully, A. Alexander |

Dear Walter- Thanks for your invaluable work- let's look forward to a frack-free NY!!! |

Thanks so much for your work! |

Hi- Sincerely, |
|
I just signed your petition to Governor Patterson. Thank you for putting it together. I am a microbiologist working in wastewater treatment. I just attended a conference on frack-water and shale brine put on by the New York Water Environment Association. It appears to me there will be a small proportion of frack water (but none the less millions of gallons) that cannot be treated by any means. It will be radioactive. I believe the drilling companies should be responsible for long term storage of this waste -- essentially putting it back in the ground. As I understand it, they are currently under no such obligation. Not all frack-return is radioactive. But some of it probably will be. Another concern I have is the platform itself. The platforms in Pennsylvania and West Virginia I saw pictures of had open pools of returned frack water and brine. This water is stored on the platform so that it can be reused -- a good practice. But the pools should be covered and walled to protect against flooding. They should be examined and approved by a qualified hydrologist. I don't know if any such practice is in place now. Finally, biological treatment of frack--return and brine is not appropriate unless the water has gone through significant pre-treatment. Crystallization appears to me to be the best option. With these concerns addressed, I would not be opposed to fracking of the Marcellus Shale. I am opposed to releasing any more carbon from the lithosphere, but the renewable energy sources required to prevent it are not in place. Fracking of shale for natural gas is much less evil than mining for coal. So I half-heartedly support the lesser of the two evils. Realistically, I don't think we can prevent shale fracking, but I think we can make it environmentally safe. Stephen B. |

Walter Hang, Thank you, Pamela S. |

Walter, I feel the need once again to say thank you on behalf of my family for the important work you are doing. We need your voice right now!! Also, thank you on behalf of people who do not even know that you are working towards their best interests and thank you on behalf of children who cannot yet advocate for themselves. You are truly a valued member of our community! I'm still trying to get the petition circulated as widely as possible. Sincerely, Terezka K |

Walter, My husband and I were going to contact you about the gas drilling. We live in Ellis Hollow, Ithaca and just heard you on Democracy Now. Thank you so very much for all your efforts to increase awareness about the NYS gas drilling. I personally hope it never happens but if it does, what you are doing should help insure that it is eventually done safely. Once again, we are so appreciative of your work. Sincerely, TK and Steve A and our two small children |
