Prove that "the pen is mightier than the sword" by writing a powerful, personalized: Request That Governor Cuomo Adopt A Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Comprehensive Watershed Clean Up Plan for Cayuga Lake Mandated as a High Priority Circa 2004
Greetings Fractivists,
Last week a total of 98 Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) was reported in New York. This is a huge increase over the 65 HABs reported the same week in 2017. According to state data, this is the largest number of HABs ever reported during a single week by New York regulatory authorities.
Despite New York's burgeoning HAB crisis, Governor Cuomo still refuses to adopt Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) comprehensive watershed clean up plans for Cayuga Lake, Honeoye, Lake and Conesus Lake, which are all plagued by HABs. All three nationally recognized impaired waterbodies required TMDLs more than 12 years ago.
These are the only waterbodies currently scheduled for TMDLs in New York State out of the more than 200 lakes, rivers and streams included in the National 303(d) registry of impaired waters.
Governor Cuomo's Failure to Resolve New York's Water Pollution Crisis is Inexcusable, Inexplicable and Unacceptable
I continue to implore activists to become signatories to our: Coalition Letter Which Requests That Governor Cuomo Take Urgent Action to Eliminate Water Quality Impairments That Cause Cyanobacteria Harmful Algal Blooms Across New York State
Please write personalized letters to Governor Cuomo. Gain inspiration by reading additional amazingly powerful activist letters below.
Crank Up the Heat. Election Day is Less Than Six Weeks Away
Please keep calling the Governor at 518 474 8390 to request that he conduct Phase I environmental site assessments of the watersheds of Cayuga Lake and your local HAB-impaired waterbody. Demand a comprehensive clean up of those polluted waters without further delay.
These requests are spelled out at: Walter Hang Announces Toxics Targeting's 2018 Cayuga Lake Clean Up Campaign
Thanks so much for all of your help.
Onward and upward,
Cheers,
Walter

Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is G D S and I live at ___ Rd. Trumansburg N.Y. 14886. I write today because I am very concerned with the health of Cayuga Lake. I have lived on this lake since the fall of 1978 and at my present home on the lake since February of 1981. There were no weeds in this area until about 8 or 9 years ago.The weed bed has progressively become both thicker and expansive. It is hard to swim and avoid the weed bed all along the shore and is not pleasant at all swimming in these weeds which grow to the surface. The situation is the same on the Eastern shore also. This is not the original situation and it is not diminishing. The algae blooms are a true tragedy. These lakes are beautiful and are a vital resource to this state. This is a real tragedy and is of utmost concern and attention.
I respectfully write to request that you adopt without any further delay a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) comprehensive watershed clean up plan for Cayuga Lake that was mandated as a "high priority" circa 2004. A TMDL is essential to end severe water quality impairments which threaten the drinking water supplied to more than 30,000 residents.

Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is A F and I live in Hurleyville, NY. I write today because I grew up in the Finger Lakes, New York State's exclusive premier Fresh Water source. The thought of not being able to boat on or swim in any of these lakes, much less draw from them for the essential biological need to drink breaks my heart, angers my mind, and engenders righteous indignation in my spirit. I appreciate so much the words of Toxics Targeting below, and fully concur.
