Deny all fossil fuel infrastructure
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Joanne C and I live in Vestal, New York, just a few miles from the Pennsylvania border.
I write today because, frankly, I am terrified. Climate change, ending the use of fossil fuels, and deploying energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies are top priorities for me, both in voting and in public advocacy and volunteering. The prospect of the incoming Trump administration is frightening, as it has pledged to dismiss science and social and environmental justice and go back to rampant fossil fuel extraction and use.
Therefore, at a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible, particularly as the federal government may try to roll back so much of the progress we have made thus far.
New York is in an ideal position to wean itself off of polluting fossil fuels because it has ample availability of natural gas and petroleum products as well as excess electrical generating capacity to meet energy demand for at least ten years. This should be sufficient to ease our path as we deploy greater energy efficiency and renewable energy measures to power our state in a climate-friendly way.
Instead of reducing fossil fuel consumption, however, your administration has repeatedly approved new infrastructure projects that would perpetuate our state's addiction to oil and natural gas for decades to come, decades that, quite frankly, we don't have if we are going to limit the most catastrophic impacts of climate change. These approvals also increase the suffering of my Pennsylvania neighbors, who are paying the price in negative health and environmental impacts from shale gas development.
These already approved projects include the Spectra and Algonquin Incremental Markets natural gas pipelines as well as the Competitive Power Ventures and Cricket Valley gas-fired power plants.
These facilities would exacerbate existing toxic pollution hazards in our state and contribute to global climate change. Approving new infrastructure is the opposite of what New York should be doing to solve its fossil fuel problems.
Request That You Deny All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals
I, therefore, request that you DENY all Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, gas storage permits, air discharge permits and other state authorizations for pipelines, compressor stations, power plants or any fossil fuel infrastructure projects proposed in our state, including the Dominion New Market Pipeline and the Crestwood Liquefied Petroleum Gas and methane gas storage facilities.
Pave the way for renewables, and Deny gas infrastructure projects
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is David R and I live in Ithaca, but more importantly, I own land in Georgetown NY which is just 1/2 mile from the proposed site of a new compressor station for the Dominion New Market Pipeline Project. That pipeline and others owned by Dominion have been leaking for decades (as shown by DEC records), and most of those contamination sites have never been cleaned up! Putting more gas through that pipeline at higher pressures -- which is what the additional compressors are for -- will just exacerbate and expand the health and safety issues that ordinary New Yorkers will experience from the "natural" gas infrastructure!
I write today because now is the time -- when the new presidential administration seems set on submerging this nation (literally) in global warming effects -- when environmental leaders like you need to move us in the right direction, for the health and safety and continued existence of world peoples, toward renewable and sustainable energy policies.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Need to DENY all fossil fuel infrastructure project approvals in New York.
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Alice B and I live at __ Street, Elmira, NY 14905.
I write today because I believe that all fossil fuel infrastructure project approvals are absolutely lethal and dangerous for the environment today and for the future of the next generations - our children, grand children, great grand children, ad infinitum.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Governor Cuomo Please DENY All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Dianne G and I live in Honeoye Falls, NY.
I write today because I am alarmed and dismayed at the efforts by the oil companies and our incoming president to deny the existence of climate change and the damage caused by continued and attempted expanded use of fossil fuels. NPR had a discussion between Mobil Oil and the Rockefeller Foundation. I urge you to listen to the entire broadcast - without prejudice NPR had put forth both platforms for and against expanded fossil fuels. Once you have listened to or read a recap of the broadcast your decision can only be to deny any additional fossil fuel approvals and put New York in a position as a leader to our country and the world that we are making every effort to promote and encourage the lessening of our dependence on fossil fuels.
Our country is about to see a chilling return to the misguided belief that climate change is a myth. I have had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and saw how desperate the Europeans are for water. In France, due to the lack of water for agriculture many farms were no longer viable until they discovered a crop that requires considerably less water - tobacco! New York State is also scrambling to obtain drinking water from our neighbors.
JOBS - the creation of new, higher paying jobs is one result of our reduction in fossil fuels.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Fossil fuel
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Michelle and I live in Virginia.
I write today because New York is a watershed for so many states south of it and for the Chesapeake Bay. In Virginia we too are a watershed for the Chesapeake Bay. There are so many reasons to transition your state and our country to more sustainable and clean energy technologies. We should be leading the world in this, not investing in old paradigms in fossil fuels and dirty energy providers. What follows is text written to further enumerate the issues.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Keep Moving Toward Clean Energy
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is D K and I live in Williamstown, N.Y. about 40 miles north of Syracuse.
I write today because I am urging you to continue your efforts against the use of fossil fuels and toward clean energy and reducing consumption. It encourages me that you, as Governor, are a leader in this effort and we need you more than ever now that our President-elect may be a climate denier (who knows for sure) and has selected an EPA chief who is a climate denier. My husband and I are doing our part. We have purchased 1000 acres of land, about 800 is under conservation easement. Both of our daughters, one a SUNY ESF grad, the other a Cornell grad, are strong environmentalists and activists. Please continue your efforts to move away from fossil fuel use, fracking, oil pipelines, and gas storage facilities.
Our names are M B and T H. We live at __Rd. in Hemlock NY, Ontario County. We have 25 acres on which we are starting to grow berries for future sales, and vegetables for ourselves.
I write today because we work this land using sustainable methods, although not government certified organic. We rely, as do thousands of local farmers, especially organic ones, on soil and water that is clean and free from toxins.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
No more gas infrastructure construction
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Stephen E and I live at __ Rd Ithaca, NY.
I write today because I feel it is time we as a state commit to a energy future free of non-renewables. We have enough natural gas for our use already with the existing pipelines and compressor stations and I am not will to sacrifice the beauty and even the lives of upstaters for new gas infrastructure. Please don't do it and keep putting our resources into solar especially.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Stop Fracked Gas Infrastructure Build Out Now
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Donald H and I live at __ Road, Franklin, NY 13775.
I write today because I am concerned with the pressure to continue installing high pressure gas pipelines. The global warming and climate change demands that we slow down burning of fossil fuels. Adding infrastructure to transport more fossil fuels [for use in the United States or for sale as LNG] and facilities like gas-fired electric generation facilities to burn more fossil fuel sends NYS in the wrong direction!
My name is Gloria L and I live at __ St, Ithaca, NY 14850.
I write today because I am frightened that my drinking water will be contaminated like the residents of Flint, Michigan. I want to invest in real estate and open a business in Ithaca, but I am very concerned about the implications of toxic pollution rendering my investments worthless.
I have already sold my 1 acre land and residence in Lansing, NY since the property was on well water and was surrounded by properties leased by gas companies intended for fracking. The mortgage lender said that if fracking is conducted on an adjacent property, it could be impossible for me to sell the home because they may not be willing to give a mortgage to a new buyer. Buyers would not be interested in buying a home surrounded by toxic pipelines, gas pollution, and contaminated groundwater. Please deny fossil fuel infrastructure approvals so that I can invest in the upstate New York community.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Halt all Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Projects NOW
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Marlene B and I live in Ithaca, NY.
I write today because it is critical that we address climate change. The election of Trump represents a giant step backwards in our efforts to address climate change. His economic plan relies on 20th century technology. It is up to our state leaders to now to instead look ahead to the needs of the 21st century. We must 100% embrace renewable energy technology.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Request That You Deny All Fossil Fuel Infrastructure Approvals
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Rebecca C and I live at __, Binghamton, NY 13905.
I write today because it seem like you do not realize how precarious our environmental condition is, and that you continue to be in denial about the immediate imperative need to quit supporting fossil fuel environmental degradation.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Fossil Fuel Infrastructure
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Donald M and I live at _ Street In Trumansburg.
I write today because while all of us without exception have an enormous stake in the future of the planet, we here in the Finger Lakes have a particular parochial interest in stopping the march of the fossil fuel industry. "Wine, not brine," was once our slogan when fracking was what we were mostly concerned about. Now, however, that concern has expanded.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Keep New York Special!

I urge you to please reject all pending fossil fuel infrastructure projects
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is Devin H and I live in Alfred, NY.
I write today to urge you to reject all pending fossil fuel related infrastructure projects in New York State. We have come so far in New York with energy in terms of long term thinking over short term gains and I believe it would be a shame to let all of that go for the sake of a few pet projects.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
Being a leading state in using only environmentally friendly energy sources
Dear Governor Cuomo:
My name is G. J. M F and I live at __; Canandaigua NY 14424.
I write today because we are leaders in the USA. We stopped hydrofracking from polluting our water, land and air and now we can go further by denying access to oil/gas companies desire to have pipelines through NY State and because they want to use the Hudson River to transport the filthy dangerous tar sands, oil and gas.
At a time when scientific concerns are greater than ever that burning fossil fuels contributes to global climate change, there is a growing consensus that every state in the nation must reduce consumption of oil, natural gas and coal to the maximum extent feasible.
