REQUEST TO GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON to Withdraw the draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement Related to Horizontal Drilling and High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing to Develop Marcellus Shale and Other Low-Permeability Gas Reservoirs

WHEREAS, the Town of Ulysses, a community in Tompkins County is wholly located above a portion of the Marcellus Shale formation, a low-permeability rock formation estimated to contain reserves of natural gas; and

Dear Governor Paterson and Commissioner Grannis,

As Chairman of Cortland County's Budget & Finance Committee and Vice Chair of the Ag, Planning, and Environment Committee; as a dairy farmer and landowner with several hundreds of acres of land under gas leases, I ask that you give the same protection to the drinking water in the rest of New York State as has been given to New York City and Syracuse regarding gas drilling. Our water is as precious and vital to our lives and livelihoods as it is to the cities.

Danby Town Board Urging Withdrawal of dSGEIS

Resolution of the Danby Town Board urging Governor Paterson to withdraw the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC’s) draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (dSGEIS) regarding high-volume hydraulic fracturing gas drilling in New York State

And whereas the draft SGEIS fails to consider the cumulative effects of drilling the large number of wells envisioned by the gas industry,

And whereas the draft SGEIS fails to consider the sources of the large volumes of water that this process requires for the number of planned wells,
