DOH "review" Campaign Summary

DOH "review" Campaign Summary

Beginning in November 2012, our grassroots campaign has successfully prevented completion of a New York State Department of Health (DOH) "review" of the "health impact analysis" in the Department of Environmental Conservation's Marcellus Shale Final Revised Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS).

The DOH "review" is critically important because no Final SGEIS can be adopted until the "review" is complete. New York's nearly six-year long shale fracking moratorium remains in effect until a Final SGEIS is adopted.

Due to the widespread opposition we organized to the DOH "review's" complete lack of public participation, the "review" has not been completed for 18 months.

More than 10,000 signatories to a series of detailed coalition letters, including more than 200 government officials, request that the DOH "review" be halted and that a comprehensive shale fracking "Public Health Impact Study" be conducted openly and transparently with full formal public participation.

The campaign has received extensive local, statewide, regional and national media coverage.

As a result, the DOH "review" is a major reelection campaign issue for Governor Cuomo.
